Can Multiple Sclerosis be treated by Neural Stem Cells?

Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissues and disables the Brain and Spinal cord. And this immune system malfunction destroys myelin. It isn't clear why MS develops in some people and not others. A combination of genetics and environmental factors appears to be responsible.

Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of multiple sclerosis may vary from person to person and over the course of the disease depending on the location of affected nerve fibers.
·         Numbness or weakness in one or more limbs that typically occurs on one side of your body at     a time, or the legs and trunk
·         Prolonged double vision
·         Pain in parts of of your body
·       Electric-shock sensations that occur with certain neck movements, especially bending the        neck forward
·        Tremor, lack of coordination or unsteady gait

Research
Scientists have showed that skin cells in the central nervous system helps in reducing inflammation and repair damage caused by multiple sclerosis. Therefore Earlier study of Cambridge have proved that transplanting neural stem cells that develop into nerve cells has reduced the inflammation CNS heal that has injured. In Recent advances expectations have raised that central nervous system have improved by the use of stem cell therapies.
Researchers have discovered that chronic multiple sclerosis leads to increased levels of succinate this shows that a small metabolite in it sends signals to macrophages and microglia, tricking them into causing inflammation cerebrospinal fluid. Therefor transplanting NSCs and iNSCs directly enters into the cerebrospinal fluid and reduces the amount of succinate by reprogramming the macrophages and microglia. This leads to a decrease in inflammation and causes subsequent secondary damage to the brain and spinal cord.
